As operational environments become ever more instrumented, computing infrastructure disappears into the fabric of the environment, leading to a significantly increased risk of misuse and attack.
The rapid modernization of critical infrastructure systems within industry sectors, such as health, energy, and water, is of great concern, leading to a dynamic variety of vulnerabilities susceptible to evolving cyber threat actors.
Research and knowledge creation for this space has had trouble keeping pace with such a dynamic frontier. It is time to consider early mover opportunities to create knowledge, improve understanding, and drive discoveries that will lead to scalable innovations that improve resilience for critical systems and safety for our society.
We plan to use early data collection to identify environmental features that can improve the characterization of critical systems for non-sensitive biopharmaceutical data collections and produce a research cybersecurity data corpus.
We will use this corpus to explore federated learning concepts relevant to developing and using digital twin technology. We will develop architectural recommendations for improving zero-based trust supply chain security for a wide range of critical infrastructure.
